The sustainable refinery

Governments throughout the world have reacted to impact-predictions over greenhouse gas mediated climate change, and the fluctuating price and demand for oil, by legislating increasingly aggressive mandates for the use of environmentally sustainable fuels, and reduced fossil carbon emissions. This has led to an increase in global interest and demand from the bio-commodities markets. Current mandates greatly outstrip existing production capacities. However, perhaps more significantly the primary resources currently used for ethanol production (starch from maize and sugar from sugarcane) will not be able to satisfy this mandated growth in demand.

LanzaTech’s vision is to be a dominant technology provider in the industrial bio-commodities market. Bio-commodities such as fuels and chemical intermediates can all be produced by fermentation.
